Filter Project

A current issue in Nepal is water. In many villages the water is not clean and creates a lot of sickness for the local people. Bottled water is sometimes available but is too expensive for most people to afford. Over the past year we have had the great pleasure to hand out over 200 filters to people in need. these filters were made by Filter of Hope www.filterofhope.org and have worked exceptionally well. These filters will give families clean water for 10 years and can clean over 150 gallons a day!

We plan to continue to distribute these filters all across the villages of the Himalayas! Thanks for supporting us as we #makeadifference in Nepal!

Langtang Chicken House Project

In March of 2017 we traveled again to Langtang to build some chicken houses in New Langtang. This place has been rebuilt next to the original area of Langtang village which was completely buried in the earthquake of 2015. Our goal was to help find a way to have chickens (and therefore eggs) in the Langtang valley. The Langtangi people don't kill animals in the valley but could really use the protein. Having eggs each day solves this problem. Usually the diet of the people in Langtang consists of rice and dal (lentils). In the past, chickens in Langtang Valley have always been killed by mongoose or frozen in the winter. Fortunately, we found some clients from America that wanted to help with this situation in Nepal.  They designed a chicken house that was small, portable, and cheap, but still strong and warm that could be reassembled in Langtang. They built two chicken houses there and brought 8 chickens for the houses. As of today, Dec 6, 2017 only one chicken has died and the eggs that are being produced are enough to feed two families and provide some additional income through selling the leftover eggs. The group of Americans (as well as our staff) also worked for two days to remove rocks from the potato fields of locals who had been injured in the earthquake. After the winter we will be traveling there once again to assess the success of the houses. If it is indeed successful, we will begin to search out partners who want to participate in building more chicken houses in similar areas all over Nepal.

Langtang Relief Trek May 2016

In April 2015 Nepal suffered two massive earthquakes. More than 8,000 people died and many of the areas within 200km of the epicenter were devastated. One of the most notable places impacted by the earthquake was Langtang Valley and specifically Langtang village. This village was buried under 30 meters of ice and rock from a glacier that broke loose during the shaking. every person in the village died. In November of 2015 we did a short trek to see how much the area had been affected. After that trek we discovered that many people from Langtang wanted to rebuild their families' homes and move back into the valley. In May of 2016 we returned to this area to help rebuild. The trek was 8 days long. We completely uncovered 3 families' foundations during that time. A little work from us made a big impact for these three families. We will be returning to this area in March 2017 to help with the rebuilding process.
